Q: Thunderbolt as a Second Display
Hello!
I recently bought a baseline-- lowest price model-- 27" 2015 Mac with a 27" 5k display. Since I had previously been using a Mac Mini with a Thunderbolt display, I decided to use the leftover Thunderbolt as a second display. I'm having two separate, distinct problems. One is that my new Mac won't boot up with the Thunderbolt connected. If I disconnect it for boot-up and then plug it in later, it seems to work fine (though I've had several unexplained crashes in my three days of usage that may or may not be related). Is there a way to set things up so the machine will boot normally with both displays connected?
My second problem is that the Thunderbolt only works when I use the built-in cable, as opposed to a separate, Apple-branded cable I purchased for the purpose. (I wanted to use the Mag-Safe on the built-in cable to charge an Airbook, and I'd have more "reach" available if the same cable weren't connected to my Mac.) It doesn't matter if I connect the purchased cable before or after bootup or which plug I use on the Mac-- the Thunderbolt remains dark no matter what.
Thank you for any and all tips!
Phil
