Q: disk space gets lost

Hi, I still got a 4S and it is doing weird things since the upgrade to iOS9. Without any warning the disk space gets zero. When I check with iTunes "Other" grew dramatically. I made a complete reset which solve the problem but only for one week, Then the same happened. Usually this occurs when I charge the phone but also during the night. So I tried everything I found on the web. I always close all apps before I charge. I reset the phone several times but the success lasted only for a few days. Also deleted the phone with "find my phone". Same result Even when the phone was completely empty after that iTunes showed apps. 700MB of "Other" data. Any I ideas what the problem might be.

Thanks, Karl from Vienna/Austria

    Hey there Karl,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

If I understand correctly, you're concerned about the amount of Other data that is taking up storage on your iPhone 4s. The article below provides a lot of great information about the types of content that can fill the storage on your iOS device, including details about cached files which should address your concerns.

Check your storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Here is a list of the types of content on your iOS device, and what each type includes:

    • Audio: Songs, audio podcasts, audiobooks, voice memos, and ringtones
    • Video: Movies, music videos, and TV shows
    • Photos: Camera Roll content, Photo Stream, and Photo Library
    • Apps: Installed apps
    • Books: iBooks books and PDF files
    • Documents & Data: Safari Offline Reading List, files created within apps, and app content like contacts, calendars, messages, and emails (and their attachments)
    • Other: Settings, Siri voices, system data, and cached files

More about cached files in "Other" iOS storage

Cached files are created when streaming or viewing content like music, videos, and photos. When you stream music or video, that content is stored as cached files on your iOS device. iTunes categorizes cached music, videos, and photos as Other instead of actual songs, videos, or photos.

    Take care.

I am afraid my problem is more complex   I tried everything helpful, I found in the fora. I also reset my iPhone and started from scratch, not with the backup from iTunes. But whenever I charge my phone "other data" start growing and growing until all disk space is used. So after every charging, I have to reset my phone, if I want to use ist again, which is quite frustrating. unfortunately I found no answer to this issue, neither here nor wit Google.

Any idea, what could be wrong?

    Thx 4 help

    Karl

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Due to the nature of the storage issue on your iPhone 4s, you may find more information by using another one of these Apple support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.
