Import Aperture 2 into Lightroom

Hi Everyone,

I am currently running Aperture 2.1.4 on a MacPro 6-core running 10.8.5.

I would like to make the change to Lightroom 5 but cannot find out how to move my Aperture 2 library to Lightroom 5. Unfortunately the Aperture import plug-in in Lightroom 5 does not recognise the Aperture 2 library, only Aperture 3 libraries.

I have to remain on 10.8.5 for the moment, hence Aperture 2 and Lightroom 5.

Can anyone tell me how to best perform this migration to Lightroom?

I have LTR5 upgraded already to LTR6 Standalone.

In LTR6:

File->PluginManager enable the Aperture/Photos Importer plugin et voilà.

File->PluginExtras gives you all kinds of import possibilities a.o. Aperture.

I don't remember if the latest update of LTR5 has this plugin too, but I guess it has.

Lex,

Thanks for the reply but it is not relevant to my original post.

My machine has to remain on 10.8.5 at the moment, so cannot move beyond Lightroom 5 as Lightroom CC (2014) is no longer available to download. The Aperture import plugin within Lightroom 5 does not recognise Aperture 2 libraries. If it was that easy I would have done it already! I am looking for a way or method/procedure of importing my Aperture 2 library into Lightroom 5.

You can do it manually, export your images to a location and folder structure of your choice, then import them into Lightroom.

Kind of. If you export the originals, no. If you export the versions, yes, but they can't be undone. You could export both the originals and the versions.

I transitioned from Aperture 3.6 to Lightroom and did the transfers manually because I didn't like the file structure that Lightroom created with the use of their plugin.

So, no way of importing the Aperture 2 library and keeping the editing intact and changeable.

The editing would remain intact as a version, but as the editing tools are not the same, there would never be a way that they could undo what Aperture did.

You have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. You could always continue using Aperture for older images.
