Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are experiencing an issue using Siri when attempting to text a contact. Here is the troubleshooting article that I would suggest going through when experiencing issues with Siri.
Get help with Siri
- If "Hey Siri" isn't working, make sure that "Hey Siri" is turned on under Settings > General > Siri.
- Siri might say, "Sorry, I'm having trouble connecting to the network," or "Try again in a little while." This is probably a network issue. Check your Internet connection and try again later.
- If Siri isn't available or responding to questions, see the next section.
If Siri isn't available, or doesn't understand or respond to questions
After each step, see if you still need help:
- Make sure that your iOS device has an Internet connection through Wi-Fi or cellular data.
- On your iOS device, make sure that Siri is turned on under Settings > General > Siri.
- Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
- On your iOS device, go to Settings > General > Siri and turn off Siri. Then turn it on again.
- Make sure that the microphones on your device aren't blocked. For example, if your device has a protective case, remove it.
- If you're using an iOS device, try to use Siri with a headset. If Siri works, get more help with the microphones on your device.
- Contact Apple Support.
Use Siri on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Cheers

Jan 27, 2016 5:11 PM in response to jason269by mjekay,Hi Jason,
I have an iPhone 6S iOS 9.2.1. - just upgraded. Siri was working fine with my contacts on my iPhone 6 iOS 9.2.
Since my phone upgrade and iOS update I cannot ask Siri to contact anyone on my contact details.
I have read a few articles and have done all of the above, including adding nicknames to contacts and still nothing.
Siri has no problem recognizing "can you call Maria", but shows no results or errors. Just stops there. Siri has no problem understanding other instructions.
I can ask please find Maria and can search my mail and the web search.
Thank you

Mar 22, 2016 1:57 PM in response to mjekayby mikesafh,Same here. Siri frequently ignores a contact name, trying to find a match by searching other sources. Some things work, but I almost have to make up a fake name that doesn't sound like an actual place to get Siri to use the contact address. For instance, I have an address set up as "preferred parking garage" but when I ask Siri to take me to preferred parking garage, it tries to find the top rated garages in the area. Work garage does the same thing. If I make it some random name, then it usually works, but that's a little silly.
It's not a hearing problem -- Siri hears exactly what it should.
Started right around iOS 9.2, still happens with iOS 9.3.
