Q: I have a G4 and G5 desktop computers that I would like to upgrade the OS.  Which OS should I install?


I have a G4 and G5 desktop computers that I would like to install the latest/best OS for these machines.  Which OS should I buy?

Neither will run any Mac OS higher than OS 10.5--it is a limitation of all PowerPC processors.

 

10.5 runs fine with complete stability on a couple of G4s I still have in service here but the slowest is a 1.25ghz and both have the RAM maxed out. I agree that 10.4 was a "sweet spot" but 10.5 was nicely optimized for the G5 so don't rule it out completely just yet.

    I would recommend Tiger (10.4). Its more stable then Leopard (10.5).
