Q: Macbook Air 11" lag and overheating

MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2015)

Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Storage: 500GB Flash

Mac OS X 10.11.2

I have had this macbook air for a couple of months and pretty much from day 1 I have had to deal with an annoying case of keyboard lag.  It doesn't matter what app I am using.  Story is always the same.  Then within a few minutes (10-15) of work (email, iMessage, browsing with safari (maybe 8 tabs open), pages or word open) the fan comes on and the heat emanating from the rear of this thing in quite intense.

I have tried reducing the number of apps on my dock, reducing the number of tabs open in safari. No luck.

This is my second macbook air. The first one which was a 2011 model didn't have any of these issues and I had a lot more open on it most times.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your time!

Thanks for this. The Activity monitor revealed that the following processes are using up 98% CPU on average. (explains why my battery never lasts I guess)

    soagent

    callservicesd

Not processes I recognise.  Tried quitting them but not much of a difference.  I did a quick search and found that it may have something to do with contacts syncing? I use only iCloud for my contact so not sure if that applies.

    Any ideas on this please?

    1. Please export your contacts directly from icloud.com to a file for safekeeping.

    2. Back up all data.

    3. Open the iCloud pane in System Preferences. Verify that you're signed in with your usual Apple ID. Uncheck the box marked Contacts. When prompted to confirm, select

              Delete From Mac

The contacts will still be on iCloud and on any other devices that sync with the same account. Leave the preference pane open.

    4. Launch the Contacts application and verify that your iCloud contacts have been removed. If you keep all your contacts on iCloud, the database should now be empty.

    5. In the iCloud preference pane, re-check the Contacts box and close the window. The contacts should reappear within a few seconds, if you're connected to the Internet. Otherwise, stop here and post your results.

Both processes down to 0% down and my Macbook is as cool as ever.

    Thanks Linc. Much appreciated.
