Is Cisco AnyConnect safe/stable?

I allowed one of my clients to install Cisco AnyConnect on my MacBook Pro so I can access their servers remotely.

I tried to remove it from my start up items, To no avail.

It leads me to the question "is it safe?"

I have used the AnyConnect client through 4 OS revisions, including El Capitan. It is safe without a doubt, and is recommended by Cisco over the built-in Cisco client. If the vpn you are connecting to is configured to make use of the AnyConnect client, then you should use it without a doubt.

There is no reason to have it in your startup items, did you go into your System Preferences and try to remove it from there? I haven't heard of it installing itself into the startup items before.

There are many examples on this site of problems caused by "AnyConnect." Like any low-level system modification, it has the potential to cause instability and poor performance. You should use it only if absolutely necessary, and then you must always make sure it's up to date. Never install a system update from Apple without checking first that it's compatible.
