Q: My iPad Pro 'restore from iCloud back up' stalled.

My iPad Pro 'restore from iCloud back up' stalled and the iTunes app did not load fully (everything else did however). There is still a message on the opening screen saying 'restoring from iCloud back up'... but nothing is happening. Settings says that I need to download iOS 9.2, but I can't do this until the iCloud back up has finished. What do I do?

    I understand from your post that your iCloud backup is taking longer than expected to restore.  The restore process can take a while, and it all depends on how much data is being restored, along with the speed and connection of the Wi-Fi network the iPad is using.  To learn more please see the information below:

     

    Restoring my device from an iCloud backup is taking a long time

    Restoring from a backup might take a while because of the size of the backup or the speed of the Wi-Fi network. For example, iCloud can take approximately 1 to 4 hours per gigabyte during a restore process.

    There are several steps you can take:

    • In iOS 8 or later, check the progress of the transfer on your device under Settings > iCloud > Backup. If the restore process is underway, the iCloud Backup setting is dimmed.
    • Make sure that your device is connected to the Internet with reliable Wi-Fi. 
    • Make sure that your device is plugged in to a power outlet.
    • Check the Apple progress bar that appears while transferring a backup.

    Thanks for replying to my enquiry. I have left my iPad connected overnight and it's still not finished over 24 hours later. It's only iTunes that I have a problem with.

    Hi Maurice,

     

    In your original post you were asking about restoring from an iCloud backup, but in your latest reply you mention leaving it connected to iTunes.  Which backup are you restoring from, iCloud or iTunes?

    Alex,

     

    THanks for getting back to me. I did the download via the iCloud, but that stalled before iTunes had loaded fully. Now I'm stuck and can't complete either!
