Q: can't shut down with El Capitan

after installing os x El Capitan my mac will not shut down. The menu bar is gone and i am left with my wallpaper. What do I do?

iMac, iOS 9.2

    Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these 2 files:

    com.apple.finder.plist

    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

     

    Then, restart, or log out and in again.

    (You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

    Hold the power button until the mac shuts down.

    Then start up again while holding the Shift key, when you see a progress bar appear you can let go of the Shift key. This method of starting up is very slow. When it is tarted up, login.

    Then from the menubar click the apple menu icon and select "restart".
