Where are the jpg files stored?

I would really like to do some maintenance with my photos outside of the Photos Ver 1.3 that I am using, but while I can see all the photos inside the app, I cannot find the files themselves on the HDD (using finder). This used to be easy in iPhoto, but not the case now. I do not use icloud, so they are all on my hard drive somewhere.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), Photos V 1.3

To do any work on a photo outside of the Photos library you should export the original file out of the library using the File ➙ Export Unmodified Original menu option to a folder on the Desktop and work on them there.

There is no reason to delve into the contents of the Photos library package. If you make an error in copying or whatever, you can damage the library. This user tip describes how to access photos for use outside of the library and is valid for Photos libraries as well: How to Access Files in iPhoto

Photos are stored within the Photos Library file located in your Pictures folder (default location), unless you are using a Referenced library where photos are stored outside of the library. If you want to view the contents of the Photos library file, right click on the file and choose Show Package Contents. However, do no make changes manually to this unless you are willing to corrupt your library.

You don't need to do any maintenance to photos outside of the Photos application.
