How do I unlock a disabled iPad that a company employee lost the password for?

My company furnished iPads for some of the staff. I had an employee leave the company (was terminated) and when we received the iPad back they had lock it to their personal iTunes account. Now I have a useless iPad Air that the company can no longer use. Is there a way to recover this?

Hey Kate,

Find your original proof of purchase for the device and do one of the following things.

A. Make an appointment at your local Apple Retail Store, and bring the proof of purchase with you.

B. Call 800-APL-CARE (275-2273) which is AppleCare, and tell them that your device is activation locked. They see this issue all the time. They will ask for proof of purchase as well and begin the process of unlocking the device with you over the phone.

Hope that help!

In the future. If you Supervise your devices with Apple Configurator 2, or Apple's Device Enrollment Program (for future iPad purchases) you can use your MDM that it is enrolled in to remove the activation lock yourself.
