Q: My iPod shuffle always restarts at the same song

I always use my iPod on the shuffle mode. When I turn the iPod off the next time I turn it on it restarts at the first song instead of continuing where I left it. This is very annoying as I am always listening to the same songs. When I charge my iPod I plug it in the wall (not on the computer). Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thank you.

I have the same issue. I have the newest version, iPod Shuffle 4th gen (mid 2015) and not only will it start on the same song, it'll turn itself off after a period of time. I then have to switch it off then on again. I don't hear ALL my songs either. I hear the same shuffled songs in the same sequence while not hearing other songs at all. I'm about to return the darn thing!

I was answering a previous question as to what type of iPod I have. My problem is not solved. In fact, I also realize that the shuffle often repeats the same songs while never playing others.

I have the iPod Shuffle 4th generation mid-2015.  I have also realized that the same songs are replayed while many songs are never played. Help!

As a test, try using different headphones to see if the problem still recurs.  The shuffle can receive remote control signals through headphones jack from headphones with buttons on the cord; faulty headphones can sometimes send false signals (even if there are no buttons on the cord).  Also make sure the headphones plug is fully inserted (a slightly misaligned plug can cause odd issues for the same reason).  It should "click" into place.

If that does not help, you can try doing a Restore on the shuffle using iTunes.  I recently bought a 4th gen shuffle (to add to my "collection" of tiny iPods).  It was acting odd when syncing, so I did a Restore within one hour of starting to use it.  No problems after that.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary settings screen in iTunes.  It erases the shuffle, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default settings.
