The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a early 2008 iMac supposedly limited to 4 GB and noticed an improvement.

Genieo is your most pressing problem. It will make any Mac crawl (my wife had a 16GB, SSD based new Macbook Pro crawl with Genieo on it). So get that off of your system as soon as possible. If you do this, your system should return to its previous performance behavior.

After that you can consider if you want to add more RAM. But this system is not going oto take too much RAM. You may decide to save your money and put it towards a new Mac sometime in the future.
