Q: Command L not working while on OS X El Capitan install screen
Hi,
My install for OS X El Capitan seemed to have frozen just past 50%, so I turned off the computer and turned it back on again. The computer resumed the install after I restarted it. Before I turned it off I was still unable to use the Command+L keyboard shortcut that supposedly shows an install log for you to be able to see if the computer is actually installing files or if it is stuck. This command still doesnt work after I restarted it, what is going on, why wont it work.

The El Capitan installer seems to have a slow section that moves installed files one by one to a temporary location during the install and then puts them back later. If you have a lot of small files on your machine this phase can easily take several hours, or more. Check your disk with Disk Utility before starting the update and then be patient.
Command-L shows the installer log window for the standard installer application, but I doubt it works while reinstalling the OS.
