Q: Trouble with split view for VLC window

I'm trying to snap the vlc window to the side of the desktop by pressing the maximize button for long time. However the snapping of VLC window generates a full sized black screen. Why is that and how to address this issue?

Using OS X El Capitan, VLC 2.2.1.

VLC is not an Apple product. Only its developers, who I believe are here:

can address issues with it.

Not all apps have been developed with Split View in mind, have you checked with VLC to see if it is compatible,
or are you just assuming.
