Running app without having to take phone?

Can it be done? I know how to get my watch to play music for my run without having to take my phone but is there a running app (c25k would be good!) that will work standalone? I don't mind paying for the right one. Many thanks.

Hi

Yes it can be done.

Apple still offers a number of features - including a built-in fitness app that can still be used to track runs - when the paired iPhone is not connected or within range.

Features that remain available when the watch and iPhone are disconnected include:

- Track workouts with the built-in Workout app.

- Play music from a synced playlist on Apple Watch.

- Use the watch to tell the time, along with alarms, timers and the stopwatch.

- Keep track of your activity (Stand, Move, Exercise) with the Activity app.

- Display photos from the synced photo album.

- Use Apple Pay to make purchases.

To find an app that works on a standalone basis on Apple Watch, read the app descriptions within iTunes (on a computer), the App Store (on your iPhone) or the Watch app (on your iPhone).

An app that includes an Apple Watch app will state: "Offers Apple Watch App for iPhone":

The description and/or developer's support resources should further explain how the app can be used, including whether or not it can be used on a standalone basis on your watch.

For example, Runkeeper states: "With our Apple Watch App track without your phone and see your current heart rate"

Apps may be updated on a regular basis, so checking the App Store is the best way to ensure that you are able to consider all presently available options.
