Download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective (both free) and open them. They will show all of your files and the respective sizes. Transfer to an external HDD or delete files you no longer want on your MBP.
Do not forget to empty trash. Only then is space allocated for new data.

Dec 30, 2015 6:19 AM in response to ThatCWallaceby OGELTHORPE,If that is in the display that is generated from 'About This Mac', there is a bug in the program that generates it and the data displayed cannot be relied upon. Often, but not always, a Spotlight reindex will correct it.
OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective will give you accurate information.
