and leave it for a non-user replacement battery to be installed...
If the unit is one that you could replace the battery yourself, then
it would be an easy task. An Apple Store with Genius can test the
computer if you have an appointment, to see if the issue is only
the battery or if other component needs replacement. Take along
the MagSafe charger, too; if going to a free Genius appointment.
Or as a good safeguard, a backup should be made regularly on a
separate externally enclosed hard drive or storage device; both
by use of Time Machine and by use of backup software such as
a clone utility. As computers age, the hard disk drive is more likely
to fail as they are a moving part, also with electronics. They wear.
