Is there a way to set up Gmail on the iphone to sync contacts from iPhone to Gmail? Adding a contact via Gmail on a computer works as in the contact will appear automatically in Mail on my iPhone. But if I add a new contact on my iPhone, it will not sync back to Gmail. Is there a way to make this work? Seems like it should be obvious?

Make sure that, when you're adding contacts to the phone, you're adding them to the Gmail account. Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendar>Contacts>Default Account.
Thanks, I don't know how I'd missed that, but it turns out that's what the issue was. It's all working correctly now 🙂
