Q: How to install new hard drive on PowerMac G5

How does one install new hard drive on PowerMac G5 ?

I have a number of drives from previous Macs that may fit into this PowerMac G5, but I'm not sure what - if anything - is required to make them fit. Any help, or guides, would be appreciated.  THANKS!

PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8), G5

You need a 3.5 inch SATA drive. As for how to swap drives you can use these instructions from fixit. You can ignore step 4 as that plastic cover does not need to be removed. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Power+Mac+G5+Hard+Drive+Replacement/1952

Two Points I wish to make:

    1) for the person proposing to do the work to read applicable portions of the User's Manual. It is VERY GOOD, and makes a point that extra guides (and mounting bolts) for the additional drive are located in a vertical flange, right along the drive-bay - Visible in STEP 5 & right below the guy's fingers in STEP 7 of the instructions from 'ifixit' (See the above link).   All one has to do is remove them and screw them into the 4 corners of the new drive.  (They caused me a lot of grief simply because I did not read the instructions.)

    2) I added the SATA drive from my upgraded iMac to my PowerMac G5. I found that if I rearranged the drives, the G5 could not locate the start-up disc. By leaving the G5's start-up disc in it's original location when adding the new drive, the G5 found both discs quite readily and rebooted with no problems - even though the new drive is currenty still formatted for the iMac.  (I will reformat the disc now that the G5 see it.)

THANK YOU GENTLEMEN FOR YOUR HELP !
