Q: iTunes could not backup the iPhone because the iPhone disconnected.

I routinely get messages that my phone has not been backed up (in over a year).

I have tried to backup in the following methods:

  1. USB direct to laptop - Backup to this computer
  2. Wi-Fi - Backup to this computer
  3. USB direct to laptop - Backup to iCloud
  4. Wi-Fi - Backup to iCloud
  5. Tried all with and without encryption.
  6. Delete previous backups (there are none)

I have upgraded my iCloud storage to 200GB to make sure I had space.

I have not been able to find a solution that makes it 100% of the way through.

I have read through multiple posts to no avail.

If anyone can give me another route I would appreciate it.

I created a video that shows the process and the alerts I have received.

What error message do you receive when you attempt to connect the device to the computer, iTunes via USB? Please provide the exact text of the error message? What version of iTunes do you have, the version number, not the statement "the latest". What version of iOS do you have on what iPhone do you have?

I don't get an error message when I connect, only when I try to backup.

You do not have the correct version of iTunes. To be able to work with iOS 9.x and iTunes, you need to have iTunes v12.3.2. You will have to download the most current version of iTunes. Then the device should work properly.

"iTunes could not backup the iPhone because the iPhone disconnected."

    I have the same experience, win7 64bit - itunes 12.3.2.35 - iphone 6 iOs 9.2.1.

FIRST problem I encounter was after the release of iOs 9. Some of my apps I bought from Appstore now not linked to my ID. so they can't be found in my phone's appstore/purchased/  - but they are currently in my iphone (installed, been backup [save on my iTunes]).

SECOND, after iOs 9 - Any apps I downloaded directly to my iPhone won't be sync to my iTunes. So if I want to update my iTunes library, I will need to download it there. But backing up my iphone still works without any error notification EXCEPT any apps updated in my phone won't be sync to my PC

According to my iTunes my last successful backup to my win PC was 27th of Feb.

THIRD, I noticed that once I connect my iPhone to PC (where my iPhone runs the current iOs 9.2.1) - It appears to my iTunes that there is an available Os update for my iPhone named 9.2.1. Okay I egnored - I didnt run the update till today even I know that my iPhone runs current OS 9.2.1. Centainly I know that something is off - as apple has end to end programming. This must be fixed through syncing my iPhone to my iTunes.

Indeed, I successfully downloaded the new software, while my iphone was connected to the PC all the way through - software was extracted by itunes, then it starts to back up... till it says IT CAN NOT BACK UP AS MY IPHONE WAS DISCONNECTED. But iPhone is still visible in iTunes

cables were not touch, iphone was on the table not being use during the process, cable is 100% healthy (3rd party but new)

Removed my iPhone, reconnect it again and I try to do the process again. and I receive same result.

I run the iOs diagnostics and sent it to apple. I wish it will be fixed.

    PLEASE HELP.

Help me too! I did the same, kept disconnecting on my brand new reformatted macbook air (lots of hard disk space). And after a number of tries, my macbook disk space is full! And i have ZERO backup done because it kept disconnecting.

How do I clear back all the unknown space taken up? I cannot find the backup data (since it probably synced halfway).

I am having the exact same issues with the exception of all software and firmware is up to date. Gets almost all the way through and says phone is disconnected. Problem here is I need to restore a new phone from the old backup. I have tried everything the Darley and jlajhoe have and nothing. So now I have 2 phones that don't work. Apple I know you need to make money so we will buy new phones - so I did that and I still can't get either phone to work. What now? No phone calls, emails, texts, etc ..... who will be compensating me for lost revenue while phones are down?

FIX THE PROBLEM YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE!!!!

First off, you are not addressing Apple here. This is a user to user support forum.

If you are having an issue restoring a phone from a backup, it is not the same problem the OP started out with. If you are just experiencing a problem with restoring a backup, you have the option to set the phone up as new, so you would be able to use the device. Sync your data back to the device manually, not using your backup.

If you receive an error trying to restore the backup, what is the exact error?

Did what? I did not recommend doing anything except checking the version numbers of operating systems and iTunes.

Hi, I get the same problem. I connect via USB. My last update was in June 2015 and it worked just fine.

It goes through the back up steps and when it is at 7 out of 8 steps (i think it says synching photo)

Suddenly shuts down with a error message "iTune could not synch because iPhone got disconnected"

I was looking at both screens and nothing was disconnected or asleep or anything.

    My versions (all updated)

    iOS 0.3.4

    OSX 10.11.6

    iTune 12.4.3

    P.S.

Photo app has major problem synching whatever that's on my phones.
