Health app Medical ID problem with emergency contact

Another poster had a problem with adding people who were in their Favorites. If so, try removing the person from Favorites, adding them as an emergency contact then adding them back to Favorites.

What type of account are your contacts synced to? iCloud? Gmail? Exchange?

Have you tried manually adding a contact on the device itself?

There are other apps that will let you create an emergency contact picture for your lock screen (that's all that really does). RoadID is one I've looked at.

OK. Just a thought. Sometimes the obvious gets missed if some of my travails are any indication.

I was also very frustrated with this same issue but just stumbled onto the answer. It does not seem to be a bug, just poor design. If you think of "emergency contact" as "emergency contact phone number" the answer will make more intuitive sense.

+ add emergency contact

search contacts and tap the person you want to be your emergency contact

Tap the phone number for the contact

Tap relationship

Repeat for each emergency contact phone number you wish to add

if gray out issue still a problem, make sure the contact has at least one phone number listed in your contacts
