My MacBook 4,1 shuts down when closing the lid.

My MacBook has this issue that when I close the lid, sleeping or not it shuts down. I've did a PRAM reset, taken the battery out and put it back in, and many other things and it still has the issue. It has done it ever since I bought it in early 2014 as a computer to fix up. I put a HD in it because the one it had was dead, could that be the issue? (The HD also makes a really loud noise when booting up or when going to About This Mac -> More Info -> Storage.

I figured out what the problem was. It wasn't software, it was a hardware issue. My power button was raised up and when the lid is closed it pushes the button and force shuts it down. It was caused by a screw that was not in all the way that is under neath of the power button for the speaker. I literally did 2 twists and it is now fixed, I am both relieved and angry at this….
