HP scanjet 5590 scanner and similar HP scanner types do not work with El Capitan

My HP scanjet 5590 scanner no longer works after upgrading to El Capitan because HP never designed a scanner driver for it. This same problem exists with a number of other HP flat bed scanners.

Both Apple and HP tech support have no solution for the problem and few of the tech support personnel of either company are willing to admit there is a problem or realize there is a problem. Both Apple and HP have let their product users down badly. I was told by an industry insider that the problem occurred because HP refused to share its scanner code files with Apple during the development of El Capitan.

The Apple scanner Image Capture program is useless and a pain to use. The scans come out too small, have poor quality and the scanner page feeder will not function when using Image Capture.

I don't see the fault with Apple. Apple is not developing the drivers. They are coming from the hardware manufacturers, in this case HP. Even the drivers OS X downloads via App Store / System Update originate from the hardware manufacturers.

And yes, I agree with you. Don't install El Capitan, if any of your vital hardware or software doesn't work with it. But then, it's the user's responsibility to do the testing before upgrading. How's anybody else but the user supposed to know what hardware/software combination he or she has. You can't expect the manufacturers to test any possible setup there is.

This discussion is going off of the subject.

Apple's El Capitan upgrade does not work with many, if not all, HP flat bed scanners. Apple and HP have taken no action to inform users that any type of problem will exist if you install El Capitan per Apple's numerous advertisements extolling its virtues. Both companies are now trying pass responsibility for the screw up which both companies had a hand in creating.

My advice to users is to not install El Capitan for at least the next 6 months to give Apple engineers the time to fix the problems reported by users. Also, think twice before selecting HP flat bed scanners since their present technical specifications show that none are designed for use with El Capitan. I planned to purchase a new HP flat bed scanner to correct my problem and have now found the none are compatible with El Capitan.

HP has known for months that Apple was designing El Capitan and did not take any action to make their scanners function with it.products. HP will not work with the Apple engineers to provide decent service and a useable product.

I will likely not respond to further posts on this subject. If anyone has suggestions to fix this issue, discuss it with Apple since other El Capitan users are discovering this problem everyday.
