My iPad won't let me delete old photos. How do I get them off the ipad?
I can't get my photos from years ago to delete. The trash can is not an option. What can I do?

If the trash can does not appear, then the photos are ones that have been synced to the device from the computer. Connect to the computer and iTunes again and delete the photos from there. They have to be removed in the same fashion they were put there, with the sync process. See this support document and use the section on Deleting.
