Macbook Problems

Having just got my girlfriends macbook back from repair due to random shutdowns, I turned it on and found the battery didnt work and the casing including the mouse button is starting to turn a weird purple colour. I was wondering if I get this replacement case from apple..is it just going to get dirty and discoloured again? Was this due to the heat the macbook was operating at before the firmware update?

Well really there's a difference between what is considered discolored and dirty. Obviously if it's dirty you should be able to clean it off and Apple isn't going to cover it. If the color can't be removed and it seems to be "part of the plastic" then you've probably got something that should/could be replaced.

As far as the case deforming.... yeah I'd say that's not normal. I bought mine on May 22nd and it's not doing that. It very well may be that it got hot enough to warp it.

But it's hard to say and really the only way you'll know for sure is to contact Apple and explain it to them. They're the ones that have the final say. I know it's a bummer that you might be without a computer while it's being replaced but both of these things shouldn't happen (except the dirt, it'll get dirty again) and replacing the offending parts should take care of it.
