Home Sharing woes

I have an iMac running all the latest OS and software. I also have 4 children. Each one has an iPad and 1 has an iPhone as well. My wife has an iPad and an iPhone. We also have 4 Apple TVs. We are considering one more Apple TV. I have an Airport Extreme and a Airport express extending the network.

I am constantly getting a "Can not connect" to my Home Sharing network from the Apple TVs. If my 14 year old is watching a movie, my Girls can not connect. If I am watching a movie, the Apple TV will not connect. The internet and iTunes are available, so I don't thinker's the network. Is there a limit of simoultaneous shares on Home Sharing??

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

There is a limit to wifi. You may be hitting the limit.

I suggest your AppleTVs use Ethernet cabling and all your wireless access points use wired cabling, CAT6e. I.e. iPads/iPhones use wifi, everything else wired.

IF that turns you off, you can always hold option and click on the Wifi icon in the menu bar (top) and launch the wifi diagnostics tool and try playing around with your acces points locations AND find the channels with the least amount of noise. This is a graduate level task.

Next, start playing a "home shared" videos/movies on several devices to create a load, then inspect your Memory usage in Activity Monitor. Overload on RAM is something to be aware of When you are serving up a bunch of media.

I Don't think there is a limit to iOS/AppleTV devices, but you can have up to five Computers.
