Dec 31, 2015 6:15 AM in response to UH60hawkby Kenichi Watanabe,What version of Windows do you use? A brand new 7th gen iPod nano requires Windows 7 or later, according to the tech specs, which says, "PC: USB 2 port, Windows 7 or later, and iTunes 12.2 or later."

Dec 31, 2015 10:30 AM in response to UH60hawkby Kenichi Watanabe,The fact that iPod appears on computer initially is a good sign. As as a test, you may want to try connecting with iPod as the only USB device. Power off (shut down) the computer, and disconnect all USB devices (including any hubs). You can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected, if used. Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod by itself to a direct USB port on computer. Any change in behavior?
If that does not help, you can try putting the iPod into Disk Mode

Then, connect it to computer running iTunes. If iTunes picks it up, it may prompt you to do a Restore with a message about "recovery." A Restore will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings. I intentionally do a Restore on new iPods before I start using it.

Dec 31, 2015 11:25 AM in response to Kenichi Watanabeby UH60hawk,I followed your directions. It is currently connected. Again, the icon flashed in the upper left, went away, and now the device is displaying "do not disconnect" flashing a circle with a line thru it above the words. Its been doing this for 20 minutes. Is this normal?

Dec 31, 2015 1:10 PM in response to UH60hawkby Kenichi Watanabe,Did you get to the part about putting the iPod into Disk Mode? Or is this after connecting iPod (normally) with other USB devices not connected?
The iPod's screen showing Do not disconnect means the iPod's disk is mounted by the system. If connecting normally (not in Disk Mode), that usually means it should appear in iTunes. In the iTunes window, there is a horizontal bar that goes across the window (near the top). The iPod appears there as a small device button (symbol on button looks like the device). Click it to show the iPod's setting screen. You don't see that device button...?
NOTE: The iPod's screen will show Do not disconnect or Connected, if it is set to load content manually. Before physically disconnecting, you need to Eject the iPod in iTunes. Or, you can eject the iPod in Windows like other removable storage devices.

Jan 1, 2016 11:54 AM in response to Kenichi Watanabeby UH60hawk,First of all, thank you for the time you are taking. Next, the Nano was in disk mode when it was connected to running iTunes. That is when the device started displaying "do not disconnect" flashing a circle with a line thru it. In iTunes, the device icon flashed in the upper left and went away the same as it did in normal mode

Jan 1, 2016 2:22 PM in response to UH60hawkby Kenichi Watanabe,Weird that it appears there in the iTunes window momentarily (like it should), before it disappears. With the iPod in normal mode, connect the iPod. If possible, click the iPod's device button (at upper left) before it disappears. If you can do that, what happens?
