Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities! While it isn't the exact thing you are looking for, a similar effect can be applied across the entire operating system and all open windows by using the Invert Colors option in the Accessibility preferences. This tends to work best for working with text, since it does cause a "film negative" effect on images and pictures. However, if you enable the keyboard shortcut (as noted at the bottom of the second following article), you can easily toggle back and forth as necessary:
