Does anyone know if one can install iWork 08 on OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks?

If you don't already have iWork '08, I suggest you buy the retail box of iWork '09 from a third party such as Amazon.com or eBay. Be sure to run Software Update after installing & before running any of the applications. You can download the standalone updater from this page. You'll get the benefits of updated applications that work on your OS and do a lot more than any of the versions of the apps released after October, 2013.

My advice would be to skip iWork 08. This is a little like asking whether it's a good idea to buy [insert model of year 2000 car]. You may get it to run ok for a while. But it's an old design, the mileage isn't great, and gets harder and harder to get it serviced.

In the case of Numbers (unlike other members of the iWork suite) the latest Numbers is in many ways far more capable and easy to use than the version in iWork '08 or '08 version. Plus it works cross-platform with iOS.

Instead of buying and installing an old version (which is now abandonware) you might try just using Numbers of iCloud (via sign-in to iCloud.com via your browser). It's quite powerful and may be sufficient for what you need to do.
