Screen sharing corrupting SMC on target mac?

Screen sharing on MacOSX from Macbook Air running Mavericks to Mac mini running Mountain Lion is corrupting the SMC on the Mac mini. Get a bunch of grey and white squares on the DVD Player screen on the Mac mini until I clear SMC on the mac mini. Once SMC on the Mac mini is cleared all is well until again externally share Mac mini's screen. Then need to clear Mac mini SMC again. What's up with that? Easy to think you have a DVD Player or DVD h/w issue. Not so.
