Q: How can I replace iDVD now that it's gone. I'd like to transfer my old iDVD project to whatever is out there that's a mac friendly t app.

looking for a way to replace iDVD on my new iMac, and transfer an old project.

    You can try to copy the necessary iDVD files from your old Mac to your new iMac.  Those would be:

     

    1 - the iDVD application which goes in the Applications folder.

     

    2 - the iDVD folder which is located in the Users/Home/Library/Application Support folder.  Copy it to the same folder on the new iMac.

    Note:  if the iDVD folder isn't in that folder look in the HD/Library/Application Support folder.  That's one of two locations it could be in.

    3 - after the application and iDVD folder have been copied to their respective locations launch iDVD and bring up its preferences.  In the Advanced preference pane click on the "+" button, go to the location of the iDVD folder on the iMac and select it.

    This should link the iDVD themes to the application and let you select themes in the Media pane of the iDVD window.

    Be aware that some of the newer animated themes, V7 in particular, are not entirely compatible with El Capitan.  The older, simpler themes work fine.
