Q: i clicked on iCloud drive in error. can i turn it off?

in the finder now i only see the drive & when i click on it i cannot see my cloud folder for numbers, pages, etc.  i don't need drive, i just want the cloud and have it back like it was before.  i am using Yosemite 10.10.5, but all of my other apps are updated. grateful for any suggestions as i don't want to dig around in the hidden library folder to get at my cloud docs. thanks

Clarification question - do you want to store your documents at iCloud? If so, you need iCloud Drive. If not, Finder/Preferences/iCloud Drive and uncheck the box. That will stop it from showing in Finder.

Thanks, Eric, yes i want to store photos & some docs in the the cloud as a back-up to my external time machine drive. initially both iCloud & iCloud drive appeared in the finder. when i clicked on iCoud i saw the folders for my numbers and pages documents stored there.  since i clicked iCloud drive, that is all that appears and i can no longer view the iCloud folders. to see them i have to go into my hidden library to find them.  what am i doing wrong?   how can i easily view those folders again?  although i have been using computers since 1974 when they were the size of small closets & Macs since 1987, i just have my Mac Book Pro.  I have no other devices.  so i have no need to retrieve them other than to my own Mac.  So do i still need the iCloud drive?  before i clicked on it, my docs were there in system preferences & in the finder in iCloud.  i appreciate all of your help, spot's Mom

back-up to my external time machine drive.

iCloud is a syncing system, not a backup. If the files get deleted from your computer for some reason, they will be deleted from iCloud. Your best option is to get another external drive. Can you see the folders/files if you log onto iCloud.com?

Where did you see iCloud in Finder? I can understand iCloud Drive, but I don't understand how you accessed iCloud directly in Finder.

    Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.

Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the same, return the .plist to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.

Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

Did the above make the files/folders show in iCloud Drive?
