How does the Hermes face stay unique to the Hermes watch?

I realize the watches come pre-loaded with the software (or firmware, whatever it is), but I'm wondering how the Hermes watch is able to hold the Hermes face exclusively, and the other watches aren't able to use that face as well. Obviously, you know what I'm getting at: throw a leather band on the Sport and a Hermes face.

Call me vain. But we all are to a certain extent. 🙂

ANY ideas on how all this works?

Apple Watch, watchOS 2

I Don't think the hardware is any different, is it?

The really expensive version (Apple Watch Edition) has the exact same interface as the aluminum (Sport) and steel (Watch), but the Hermes is unique (in terms of the display).

I'm wondering if the display is physical, rather than digital. In other words, perhaps the Hermes label and the numbers are present even when the watch is turned off. That wouldn't seem logical, but maybe that's how it's done.

Regardless, it seems it would be easy to trick the watch into thinking it's a Hermes instead of a steel or aluminum.

I'm curious, that's all. Not really a big deal.

Part of the reason I'm curious is that there is always some kind of workaround in these situations. I have a desktop PC that I am going to convert to OSX Mountain Lion (I bought the software). Also, I've read reports of people installing OSX on tablets as well. I just like to see the possibilities (along with sneaking in a back door or two). 😉

Other watches can use the Hermens face as it is only installed on the Hermes watch. It's not installed on any other watch. It sounds as if you're speculating that the watch faces get loaded from the Watch app, which, to the best of my knowledge, is not how it works. Even if they did, though, Apple could easily code things so that something only go loaded onto a specific version. Look at iOS. Even though both iPads and iPhones use iOS, they don't have exactly the same features.

The hardware is not different. The firmware installed on the hardware of an Hermes watch is different.

I haven't heard of anyone jailbreaking an Apple Watch. And, if there was a way and you did it, you'd be violating your warranty and possible impairing the functioning of your watch. Seems like a a lot of damage to do just for a watch face.

That's a violation of the license of the software. I believe that makes it illegal.
