Q: no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key error after Camptjne X with OS X 10.11 and Bootcamp Windows 10

Hello everyone,

 

I was winder gin if anyone could help with my problem. I have the following machine:

 

Mac Mini (mid 2011)

OS X 10.11 (250Gb)

Bootcamp with Windows 10 (250Gb)

 

I used Camptune X to increase the windows 10 partition and then rebooted when it had completely finished. I then got the "no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" error message. The following is my sudo output:

    Step A - Disable El Capitan temporarily (About System Integrity Protection on your Mac - Apple Support)

     

    1. Boot into Local Recovery (Command+R).

    2. Start Utilities -> Terminal.

    3. Type csrutil disable in Terminal and press Enter/Return.

    4. Type csrutil status.

    5. Boot normally, and type csrutil status to confirm that all individual entries are still disabled.

     

    Step B - Mark Windows MBR as bootable.

     

    In OSX Terminal, run the following commands. Please ignore the i386 MBR error message, but not any others. The first command puts you inside the Fdisk utility. The subsequent commands are Fdisk commands (till you enter 'q').

     

    sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0

    p

    setpid 4

    07

    flag 4

    p

    w

    y

    q

     

    Reboot and test. Re-enable SIP, once you have everything working, using Step A and csrutil enable.

    So everything is working 100%, thanks very much, you've been a great help. I just have 2 more questions:

     

    1. In future how do i avoid this? I thought Camptune X didn't change the boot sequence of a bootcamp partition and was the best option at changing the partition size.

     

    2. I have a MB Pro Retina. Is there a way i can take the entire Windows partition and run it off Parallels? If not, could i run it off a bootcamp partition on my Pro? Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Please backup OS X, Windows and create a Windows System Restore point.

    It did not change boot sequence, it just 'forgot' about setting the boot flag. You may want to create a support request with CampTune Tech Support and let them know.

     

    2. I have a MB Pro Retina. Is there a way i can take the entire Windows partition and run it off Parallels? If not, could i run it off a bootcamp partition on my Pro? Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

    You can import the Bootcamp partition into Parallels as a VM, on the same Mac, but you cannot run it as a VM on a different Mac.

    You can also migrate the Windows partition from the rMBP to MP. The partition cannot exist on both at the same time.

    Hi,

     

    I tried to install windows 10 pro 64 bit in my 11-inch MBA mid 2011 model. Its OS is 10.11.2  Elcapitan. After downloading the .iso file i formatted my 8 gb USB in MS-FAT format and used boot camp and copied the .iso file to the USB and partitioned my SSD to 100 GB for windows and the remaining 350 GB for mac OS. during re-booting. It showed "No bootable device- insert boot disk and press any key ". But if i press it doesnt work. I am now using only Mac OS and the 100 GB is shown as boot camp usage.

     

    Please help me rectify this problem and install windows 10 .Thank you in advance

    Did BC Assistant create the USB installer? Is the USB a USB2 flash drive?

    yes its a usb 2.0 flash drive. i guess BC assistant did. as it restarted by itself after creating partitioning

    yes i inserted the USB and checked again.. the installer is created in the USB
