Phone reverting to previous number won't hold changes

I had to change my phone number and while I seem to make and receive calls, my number doesn't not show correctly. When I open the phone app, the number at the top of the screen is wrong - it includes my old number plus an additional 332. I went into phone and manually changed it to the correct 1+ number and it appeared to save, but then reverted back to the old number. When I plug the phone into the computer and hook it with itunes, the number there is incorrect. I have changed my apple ID and personal contact information, turned off imessages and facetime (currently off), logged in and out of icloud on all of my devices multiple times, started and restarted the phone a lot too, and am now trying to restore my phone. When I first noticed it I was still talking to the carrier by chat and they said it could take "a few minutes" to reset. It has been hours and I am unclear if my texts are showing the appropriate number or not. Any idea how to fix this? I have searched this community a ton and haven't seen any recent answers to say what to do if the manually changed "my number" keeps reverting to the old one. I'd love some help. Thanks,

Joanie
