Q: Corrupted Photos / Coloured bars on photos.

Hi,

Recently I have been transferring Photos from an Iphone 6 (but that were taken on a second generation Iphone) onto a new macbook using the Photos application. However, around 600 of these photos (especially the old ones) failed to transfer, throwing error -9337. I then attempted to manually retrieve these using a windows computer. This succeeded more, with many of the photos being retrievable, however, around 100 of these photos, seem to be only partially complete. These photos have coloured bars on them, the colour of the bar is dependant on the background color of that particular photo, and it seems like there is simply missing data. These boxes or bars take up a significant portion of the photo, and I don't know whether the photos are simply corrupted or if there is any way to retrieve them. I have attached a screenshot of one such photo. The strange thing about these photos is that often the thumbnail will be complete, and the original picture on the iphone from which I am importing these files, seems to be always complete, it is just in importing the photos to a computer that there are problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hi OfficialPiAddict,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities! I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPhone. I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are describing or what you are seeing when you try to import your photos, but you should be aware that if these photos were originally synced to your iPhone from another source, you may not be able to import them back via standard means, as noted here:

    More about synced photos

    • You can sync photos from only one computer or user account at a time. If you sync photos with a different computer or user, the newly synced photos will replace the photos you previously synced.
    • You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures taken by your device, or saved to it, from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device, email the photos from the device to yourself. Then download the photos from the emails to your computer.
    • Syncing photos with your device will create an iPod photo cache.
