Q: IPad Pro disprupted during setup, now itunes thinks it's connected to a phone, not an Ipad

Left dear hubby alone to setup his new Ipad Pro, came back and he had disrupted the setup process. He thought the cloud part of it was taking too long, started pressing buttons, and before he knew it, "Ipad is disabled and please connect to Itunes".  It never had the chance to sync to our laptop, the Cloud sees it and has it's serial number but its in faded grey, and because we weren't able to turn the Find my Ipad function on, we can't remotely wipe it. Tried recovery mode, Itunes is updated, but when connected iTunes says Ipad is locked and needs to be unocked first. Then Itunes says it recognizes an Iphone is in Recovery, not an Ipad.  Then when you hit the Restore button, Itunes says "software for this Iphone not currently available". Very close to ripping my hair out!!! Please help!

    Hello there, MalPod.

It sounds like the iPad may have been restored from a previous iCloud backup for another iOS device. The following Knowledge Base article provides some great recommendations for troubleshooting:

If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again

    1. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
    2. While your device is connected, force restart it: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, and don't release when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding until you see the recovery mode screen.
    3. When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device.
If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, you'll need to repeat these steps and choose Restore instead of Update when you get back to this step.
    4. After the Update or Restore completes, set up your device. If you previously backed up your device with iTunes or iCloud and had to restore your device in step 3, you might be able to restore from your backup during setup.

And while the above is occurring, be sure to keep hubby busy and elsewhere engaged to avoid further interruptions.

Pretty sure you can think of numerous ...er... activities to achieve this.
