Q: No bootable device, MBP, no optical drive

Hello,

I have a macbook pro in mid-2010 with El Capitan. My optical drive died so I changed to a SSD. So my MBP has an SSD for the main partition and an HHD for data. I want to install Boot Camp on HHD.

First, I created a "Generalized" Windows 7 installation with VirtualBox and I cloned image "Generalized" Windows 7 on Boot Camp partition with a guide I found on Google. My generalized windows 7 is working in the VirtualBox.

I'm sure that my problem is because my MBR is invalid or because the Bootcamp partition is on disk1 and Windows will not start because it is not on the disk0.

I need help.

I thank you.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

Is it possible to put the designated Windows drive in the main bay and put the other drive in the Optibay?

The disk numbering is not important. If you can boot to OS X, can you post the output of the following Terminal commands?

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

Step A - Disable El Capitan temporarily (About System Integrity Protection on your Mac - Apple Support)

    1. Boot into Local Recovery (Command+R).

    2. Start Utilities -> Terminal.

    3. Type csrutil disable in Terminal and press Enter/Return.

    4. Type csrutil status.

    5. Boot normally, and type csrutil status to confirm that all individual entries are still disabled.

Step B - Update MBR. Please ignore i386 MBR message, but not any others.

    sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk1

    p

    setpid 3

    07

    flag 3

    p

Is your Windows disk in the Main Bay? If yes, you will need Windows Startup Repair. Does Windows Safe Mode work?

    Just want to confirm...

    1. HDD with Windows in the main bay/primary bay.

    2. SSD with OS X in the optical drive bay.

Is it possible to temporarily disconnect the SSD?
