Managing Apple TV-2 without a monitor

I have an apple TV2 and apple TV4 on my network. I would like to use the apple TV2 optical cable out for audio - can I configure and manage the apple TV 2 without a monitor attached? The apple tv4 will be attached to my home theatre system
