trying to enable sharing on my pc that will allow me view my photo file on my apple tv. thanks

iTunes > File > Home sharing > Turn on
then
iTunes > File > Home sharing > Choose...
I don't see a file option on my Itunes page. Is this because I use windows? When I log on to itunes I only see a player with a list of my various tunes. There is a drop down box with preferences. Preferences allows me to select a tab labeled sharing and I have made the these selections but "status" tells me no users are connected. Apple TV gives me a message that I should turn on sharing on itunes?????? Is that Apple TV is not compatible with my Windows Vista?
