Q: cannot install OS X el capitan. I have OS X 10.7.5

I need to update my itunes in order to be able to syncrhonize my iPhone 6s.

Wenn I try to update to El capitan (apparently the only Mac system available in apple store) have the message: "Mac OS X kann nicht auf Macintosh HD installiert werden."

It is a Mac Book Pro 13", Mitte 2009 CPU 2,26 GMz Intel Core 2 Dou, 8 GB, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

How can I update to a newer OS X ?

Thanks in advance

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

The iTunes update is independent of the OS version.

Download iTunes 12.3.2This update to iTunes adds support for iOS 9 and Windows 10. Dec 10, 2015

Be sure you have at least 20 GBs of free space on your hard drive. Repair the HDD and permissions then try downloading again.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion or Lion

    Boot to the Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears.

    Repair

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the indented Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

I'm wondering if this could be a permissions issue. You might try running the Disk Utility app (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility) and having it repair permissions on your hard drive.

Thanks Franzkaiser. You are right, after reparing the permissions, it was possible to install El capitan. But I have another issue. IPhoto and Stick Notes do not work unter el capitan.

It seems that the installed version is not compatible with el capitan. When I try to look for iPhoto in App Store. I cannot find it

Do you know what happend with iPhoto?

"Um iPhoto.app“ zu öffnen, muss auf die neueste Version aktualisiert werden."

"Die auf diesem Mac installierte Version von iPhoto ist nicht kompatibel mit OS X El Capitan. Die neueste Version erhalten Sie gratis im Mac App Store."

Re: Is Iphoto gone ? i want it back!

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

I don't know about the notes app. Perhaps try the same trick as above. Also, see App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
