Contacts not handling names correctly.

We are trying to send out a "New Year's" card. In previous years I have had no problem printing the mailing labels for these cards.

Today I'm seeing that of my contacts are printing with first name and then last name. But, many of them are printing with last name, and then first name.

I have tried resetting the Contacts preferences so that it would list first name first. Doesn't change anything. I tried creating a new group and then moving the cards into it. I moved the cards into the new group. In each card's profile, the last name is listed first then the first (as it always has). But when I move the card into the new group. It is listed there last name, and then first name. I've tried everything and end up with a group having some of the names listed first name and then last name land other name being listed last name and then first name.

How can I fix this? I have several hundred names in my contacts folder. Is there a bug in Contacts?

Thanks,

Don't see a way to edit the above, so hence this reply.

More info: Last year I created a group to print mailing labels on my MBP. I moved about fifty names into it and successfully printed the mailing labels, first name then last name on the label.

I have upgraded to an iMac 27" Retina this past year and moved everything to it. I'm running OSX 10.11.2. All apps have been updated.

This year I see that all of the names used in this special group last year are being displayed last name then first name. Need them the other way for mailing labels. I have set the Contacts Preferences to display names first name then last name. That doesn't change any of them. All of the rest of the names in other groups display first name then last name. This set of names are in multiple groups and they display the same in each group. I tried to delete the names and then re-enter them. Still displays last name, then first name.

I also see that Contacts on my iPhone 6S are not being updated when I make changes on the iMac contacts. The iPad3 is updating. Something is very wrong here!

The only way I can fix this is to create a new card to replace the one that won't display correctly. These ill-behaving names display correctly on my iPhone 6S (IOS9.2) and on my iPad 3 (IOS9.2). Contacts are supposed to be synced in each device ???

Spent several hours on this and need some help. Anyone else see this? Don't see any other forum entries addressing this problem. Any suggestions?

No replies to this. But, I found the solution. So maybe this will help someone else.

If a name gets displayed wrong (last name then first name) when the rest of the names are defaulted another way. You can go to each name, one at a time and select it, then go to Card and select "Show Last Name Before First" or "Show First Name Before Last". It switches depending on what the default is set to in Contacts Preferences (you can select to show in first name first, or last name first and it changes all names, except those that have been set manually). Strange thing is that they don't sync this way to your other devices, iPhone or iPad. You have to do them one at a time. Can't change the whole group. And when you change this order in one group, the names are fixed in all groups the are in. (The name is only in the system once, but is linked to one or more groups).

Hope this helps someone. I spend over eight hours fighting this, re-synced by devices with iTunes, read many discussions here, did a Google search, etc.

This is not documented in the help files. Nor, is it addressed in Apple Support. Not much help there for Contacts.

Now I need to know why adding a new group in OSX doesn't sync the new group to the IOS devices. Not as critical, but a problem none the less.
