How do you type a multiply sign into a formula in Numbers 3.6?

How do you insert a times/multiply sign into a formula? The letter X doesn't work. I found a reference that says use an asterisk (shift/8), but that doesn't work, either.

Thanks.

Just use the actual asterisk character by typing shift-8.

Hi David,

Type = to start a formula.

To multiply, type an asterisk *. Numbers changes that to x

To divide, type a forward slash /. Numbers changes that to

÷

If you type =B2*2/4

Numbers changes that to =B2×2÷4

(With a small font size, the divide sign looks like a plus sign).

Also, no need to type the cell reference; just click on the source cell (B2 in this example).
