Best/fastest operating system for Ipad2?

Hi,

I'm still using the Ipad2 and it works just fine, except that lately apps seem to take forever to open. I'm still on OS7, but I've heard that OS8 and OS9 slow the Ipad2 down even more and that it's better not to upgrade. Then again, maybe apps won't be supported much longer on OS7? The strange thing is, it seems that ever since OS9 was released my apps appear to take longer to open, even though I haven't even upgraded. Or perhaps there is something else slowing my Ipad down?

For example the Ipad takes about 45 seconds to work when it's turned on. Safari takes about ten seconds to open a simple e-mail webpage. Facebook takes 15 seconds to open, but if I try to sync with the MyVegas app I use sometimes, it can take over a minute for the sync to happen. The MyVegas app takes almost 30 seconds to open, 15 of those seconds it's just a black screen. I never had the long black screen time until recently. And that's with all of the other apps closed.

Any advice on how to make apps open faster or which operating system is best? Also, if I were to try OS9 and didn't like it, could I downgrade again?

My Ipad still looks and works great, would be a shame having to replace it just because of the operating system or slow app time.

Thanks for any help! 🙂

If you don’t mind not receiving any app updates, over time, then staying with, iOS 7 is a pretty good decision.

However, not every iPad 2 still being used was affected by slowdowns from iOS 9.

I’m still using a 64 GBs (approx. 17 GBs of free data storage space left) and my iPad 2 is running fine with some features disabled.

Still, currently, receiving app updates, too!

Best way to update an iPad 2 is to have, at least, 3-4 GBs minimum free storage space and to do the iOS 9 upgrade connected to computer running iTunes (at least version 12 to 12.6.3), to ensure error free upgrade.

Hi,

It's not possible to downgrade so if you dont like ios 9 you are stuck. If you use your ipad only to browse the web, and your favorite apps are still supported or usable I really reconmend to stay with 7.04.

I Really regret upgrading my ipad 2 ever since ios 8. Now with ios 9 I can barely browse the web without reloading tabs and crashes. Keep reading forums after apple release a new update. Performance might be better, the same, or worse.

Okay, thanks a lot. I think I'll stay with OS7 to be safe. I can always upgrade later. Apps work fine for now, except the slow loading time. Internet in general is pretty fast. They probably don't have much of an incentive to make things easier for old Ipad users, since they want people to buy new ones instead. Wouldn't want to spend 400$ on a similar Ipad, though, if the one I have still works fine. I even like the somewhat sturdier construction. Maybe I'll get something cheaper like a Kindle in addition if I start having more troubles with apps.
