Slow Contextual Menu

Hello!

The following error occurs: As soon as I try to "right-click" to get to the contextual menu of a folder, file, hard drive or simply on desktop for the first time after a reboot, the spinning wheel appears for 5-10 seconds and then the menu opens. After that it works without problems.

Do you know any solutions? Because it's really annoying....

Thanks....

This could be a symptom of a failing internal disk particularly if it just started for no reason. (Reading the information for the menu is taking a long time but it is cached in RAM for subsequent uses.) If your Mac still has its original disk this is a relatively likely possibility. Make sure you have at least two backups of your files before proceeding.

1. Check with Console.app whether there are any error messages that occur at the precise time you see this problem.

2. Reboot in Safe Mode:

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

and see if the issue is still occurring. (Safe Mode performs some disk maintenance procedures, which may fix the problem if you are lucky.)

3. Restart in the normal fashion, run EtreCheck:

http://etresoft.com/etrecheck

and post the results here.

What System Message(s) appear in Console.app at the same time the delay occurs? (This is important information!)

Did Safe Mode make any difference?

Create a new 'Test' user account and see whether this has the same issue.

You could also try, in rough order of likelihood of them being the cause of problems:

Update Paragon NTFS to a version that is compatible with OS X 10.11.

Uninstall Little Snitch:

How can I uninstall Little Snitch?

Uninstall iStat Menus

Quit Chrome (it seems to be a big resource hog on El Capitan) or uninstall it completely:

Make sure DropBox is up to date.
