Q: raw file converter for FUji X-S1 with version 10.11.2

raw file converter for FUji X-S1 with version 10.11.2?

Any ideas?  Previous silkypix versions don't seem to work with El CAPITAN!  all to do with photos now being in photos and not

in iPhoto?  Confused!

Thank you!  I wish I had known before updating to El Capitan!  I presume if I buy some other processing software like

Aperture or Affinity I will be able to get to the pictures?

Aperture is using the same built-in RAW Support of El Capitan as Photos.

I don't see your camera on the list of supported cameras in Affinity Photos:  https://affinity.serif.com/forum/index.php?/topic/4630-supported-develop-raw-cam eras/

Probably Adobe will have support for your camera, check Photoshop or Lightroom.

But I'd wait for the DxO photo editing extension to add RAW Support for your Camera.  It has is a very versatile RAW Converter. Check out the AppStore.

The DxO website has a request form, where you can ask for cameras to be supported:   http://www.dxo.com/us/photography/photo-software/dxo-opticspro/supported-cameras

I just checked - the free Adobe DNG Converter supports your camera - the list of supported cameras is here:  https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html#Fuj ifilm

You can download it here:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Macintos h

If you can get it to run, you could convert the your RAW files to DNG format.  Photos can process the DNG files that I created from my Lumix RAW files with the DNG Converter.

    Hi Leonie

OMG that is brilliant - I have downloaded it and I am trying to select files to convert but I need to ask a really basic question cos I am a novice!

When I go to pictures to select the files it only displays picture files in iPhoto up to 2013 which is when I swapped over to my new iMac which runs on El Capitan.  My newer photos are all in Photos but I can't find them anywhere.  And has etc confess to having been fairly confused since the swap over to

Photos - can you give any basic help?  You have been so helpful so far I hate to ask.

    No problem Sophie!

The DNG Converter cannot import photos directly from your Photos Library.  Select the RAW files you want to convert and export them from Photos to a folder on your Desktop with "File > Export > Export Original...".

In DNG Converter select this folder.  I use these settings to convert to the DNG format:  I just click "Select Folder" and select the exported folder, then click "Convert".

And then I import the converted DNG files back to Photos.

Just a word of warning before you start off on this route. I've been through using the X-S1 as well, (and a HS-50 before that). although Apple Raw can open and view the DNG files created here, it still does not fully work with them. Just check some images with straight lines in them, particularly at wide angle, you'll see they don't get lens corrections applied, as Apple Raw doesn't have the lens data for the Fuji cameras installed here.

I also found that even the RFC software supplied by Fuji doesn't correct this properly on all images either, but it's better (although it's possible to fine tune it in RFC on a per image basis). The only way I've found to work with Fuji Raw images is to use Lightroom. These cameras are old enough now that it's unlikely to see Raw support for them appearing in new updates elsewhere.

FWIW, I only used my Fuji cameras for a couple of years, and didn't really take that many shots with them in the end, so I used RFC to simply convert them all to JPEGs, as well as reimporting the JPEGs when I had used Raw+JPEG when shooting, so that I could make a switch to using Photos. It's worked well enough for my needs, but it has been lesson learned, check the compatibility of the camera before buying.
