I solved this issue myself. I had to restart my iPhone and then the automatic settings worked on the iPhone, but still not on the Watch. I restarted the Watch twice, but nothing happened. It was not until I disconnected the Watch from my iPhone and then reconnected them that the Watch finally showed the right date.
