Windows 10 problem

Not sure if the problem is with Windows 10, iTunes, or both. Since I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and Windows 10, I can't sync my iPhone or iPad. iTunes won't recognize either. I have done the reload, all the apple programs, and that doesn't work. Any suggestions that don't involve explosives???

Try the following:

  1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
  2. Plug in your device
  3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
  4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
  5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
  6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
  7. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  8. Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
  9. Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager

Or try iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

Failing that try a full tear down and rebuild as set out in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The problem I have is the Apple Mobile driver isnt showing under the USB controllers. Under portable devices, it does show up.

Running services.msc, I do see the AMD service running, and is running as automatic.

It doesnt tell me what build, but its a factory Dell install and I just made sure I have all updates, and its loaded with iTunes 12.3.2.35x64 (downloaded today)

I've deleted all of the apple software, and reinstalled the package twice now. No changes. Ive shut down the service, rebooted, no change. Cable is good, I can plug it into my win7 box and everything is fine. I've tried various USB ports, all 3.0, and used a hub that is 2.0 so it would dumb it down if it was a 3.0 issue but since the ipod is a 2.0 device, that shouldnt be an issue. The device does enumerate just fine, so the USB port is not a problem.

I mean...seriously, if so many are having problems like this, and win10 has been out for a while....how come its still a problem?

It will still be on your old computer and any backup of it. You need to copy it to your new computer.

Migrate an iTunes library from one computer to another

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.

Method 1

  1. Backup the library with this User Tip.
  2. Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
  3. Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
  4. Keep your backup up-to-date in future.

Method 2

Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.

Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.

I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.

Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.

If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See Make a split library portable.

Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

I have Windows 10 and latest iTunes (12.3.3.17).

After working fine a couple of weeks ago neither my iPad or iPhone were recognised by iTunes went I went to apply the latest IOS update.

I effectively did a combination of the previous suggestions.

I found the iPad in Device Manager, it was only appearing under Portable Devices, and then right-clicked and selected Update Driver.

I chose to find the files on my computer and navigated to the directories suggested

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

in my case the first one as I am running 64-bit Windows and iTunes.

The driver update ran and after a couple of minutes the device appeared in iTunes.
