Were those slideshows on the iMac before you installed El Capitan?

Were those slideshows on the MacBook Pro before you installed El Capitan?

Each should have the same slideshows that it had previously; slideshows do not transfer through iCloud Photo Library.

    See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204486

These items are available only on the Mac where you created them:

    • Books, cards, and calendars
    • Slideshows

    [et cetera]

When you first launched Photos on the iMac, it should have offered to migrate the contents of your iPhoto library into a new Photos library, including the projects like slideshows. Did Photos not offer to do that, did you decline the offer, or did Photos migrate the library but skip the projects?

thanks for your reply.  it offered to migrate and i did so.  all 22000 photos came over into photo but no projects.

If the 22,000 photos and the missing projects were in the same iPhoto library, something clearly went wrong. Unfortunately, it may be difficult to tell just what the problem was back then. Was there no error message at the migration?

Things I would be tempted to do in your place (in no particular order):

    * Launch iPhoto to be sure the projects were where you thought and are still usable there (assuming you kept iPhoto up to date at v9.6.1 and you kept the iPhoto library).

    * Try redoing the migration on the same iPhoto library (if you kept it) or on a small test iPhoto library.

    * Start a new thread here in the "Photos for Mac" forum with a better title (indicating a migration problem and not mentioning iCloud).
